For Carla Caballero, fashion began long before it became a career.

Growing up beneath Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, Carla discovered sewing during a defining chapter of her childhood. 

After a tragic accident left her father hospitalized for more than a year, Carla spent much of her time in the care of her grandmother, who taught her how to sew. What began as a source of comfort soon became a lifelong fascination with craftsmanship and the transformative power of clothing.

Carla continued to develop her craft throughout her youth, winning two young designer competitions and earning sponsorship to present her own collection at Johannesburg Fashion Week. 

She later moved to the United States to earn her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Her career took her around the world, including years working in couture in Sydney, Australia, before moving into senior creative roles for fashion brands in the United States.

Inspired by the extraordinary landscapes, color, art, and culture of South Africa, Carla and her husband Chris Branch founded Caballero with a shared commitment to quality, individuality, and thoughtful design.

Today, Carla’s South African heritage remains at the heart of every collection.  Exclusive prints, expressive color, and feminine silhouettes inspired by her mother, Lucia Caballero.  These exquisite details are balanced by her background in bespoke construction and couture finishing.

As a family-owned brand, the Caballero name carries meaning. They thoughtfully source high-quality materials, including eco-responsible viscose, and partner with socially compliant factories committed to responsible practices and equitable working conditions.
